Wild Lime (Zanthoxylum fagara)

I like sun to part shade.

Low to average water needs.

Size: 10-12 ft tall x 4 ft wide

Bloom Time: Spring, Summer, Fall

I may not produce limes, but I still have plenty to offer. I am a small evergreen tree named for my yellow-green foliage that smells like lime when crushed. My thorny branches make the tree a safe haven for birds to nest. I am a host plant for the largest butterfly in the United States, the Giant Swallowtail! I thrive in full sun location and require no additional water once established. Because of the sharp spines that grow along my stems, consider planting me away from walkways. Both male and female plants are required to produce the small black berry-like fruit.
