Sunshine Mimosa (Mimosa strigillosa)

Blooms best in full to part sun.

Low water needs once established.

Size: 0.5 ft tall x 50 ft wide

Bloom Time: Year around

This fluffy native ground cover is a great alternative to grass in a residential garden. It’s an evergreen ground cover that forms a lush green carpet with whimsical purple blooms, almost reminiscent of Dr Seuss’s famous truffulo tree! It is also known as a sensitive plant because when the leaves are touched, they close up. Give this plant a few months of daily watering to get it established, but once established, it requires no additional irrigation. Will establish itself with a very long taproot, so be selective about planting site. This is a host plant for the little sulfur butterfly.
