Maypop Passionvine (Passiflora incarnata)

Full Sun to Part Shade

Low Water Needs

Size:      5-12 ft wide

Bloom Time: Spring, Summer, Fall

Maypop passionflower is a wonderful fruit producing vine with exotic looking blooms. This plant spreads using rhizomes just beneath the ground surface. In areas with loose sand or mulch, it can spread, sprouting up some distance away from the mother plant. Its ability to climb using tendrils can make it a threat to slow moving bushes. It is a host plant for numerous butterflies including Gulf Fritillary, Zebra Longwing, Red banded hairstreak , and Julia heliconian butterflies. The young tendrils of Passion Vine are eaten by wild turkey.
