Low to average water needs

Size:  1-2 ft tall

Bloom Time:   Spring bloom, Fall fruit

Coastal ground cherry is an edible native tomatillo, which is closely related to the tomato. It is traditionally found at the edge of pine forests, but it isn't picky about location. Once ripe, the fruit is covered in a papery-like nonedible covering. The fruit is ripe when it turns yellow and is attractive to humans and wildlife. It will spread if the fruit is left to ripen and fall to the ground. Plant it in a fairly sunny area with low to average moisture.
