Gopher Apple (Geobalanus oblongifolius)

Prefers sun, but will do okay in part shade.

Does not need extra water.

Size:    0.5-1 ft tall x 3 ft wide

Bloom Time: Summer

Gopher apple provides lovely ground cover for dry sunny areas. It gets its name because it produces small apple-like fruits that gopher tortoises love! It grows small white blooms, followed by the fruit. It is edible to humans as well as animals. It does well in sandy soils in full sun or part shade. Make sure to plant gopher apple with some room, because it is a ground cover and likes to spread.
