Giant Leather Fern (Acrostichum danaeifolium)

Part shade

Average to high water needs

Size: 6-12 ft tall x 5-10 ft wide

Specimen plant or mass background planting in moist areas. Could be used as a hedge. As this fern gets very tall, it is not appropriate as a groundcover. This fern is not drought tolerant and naturally found in brackish and freshwater marshes and swamps. The fiddleheads are edible and in the past, the fronds have been used as thatch.
