Gallberry (Ilex glabra)

I love the sun but will bloom with some shade.

I have low to average water needs.

Size: 6- 12 ft tall x 3 ft wide

Bloom Time: Spring, Summer

I am a phenomenal native evergreen shrub. My small white blooms are attractive to bees, and my dark purple berries are a great source of food for birds and other wildlife. I can be pruned to be a shrub, or grown to form a small tree. My branches provide excellent cover for birds. Gallberry honey is known for it’s lack of crystalizing and the leaves of gallberry make a great tea.

I make a great screen and hedge!
