Firebush (Hamelia patens)

Tolerates all light conditions.

Low water needs.

Size: 10 ft tall x 6 ft wide

Bloom Time: Spring, Summer, Fall

Firebush is a popular shrub that is a great addition to your formal or wildflower garden. In the spring and summer, it produces red and orange tubular flowers. These blooms attract butterflies and hummingbirds. After blooming, its little black berries draw in all the birds. In the fall, the leaves turn lovely shades of orange and red. It can be left to grow wild, or trimmed to a neat shrub. If grown in full sun, it is more compact, and if grown in the shade, a little more leggy. Firebush is a little cold sensitive, so it may die back with a hard freeze.
