Dwarf Fakahatchee (Tripsacum floridanum)

Prefers the sun but will do okay in part shade.

Average water needs.

Size:     2-3 ft tall x 2-3 ft wide

Bloom Time: Spring

The native Fakahatchee grass is a great addition to the damp areas in your yard. It forms a nice clump and works well as an accent plant. The leaves are a bit sharp, but the lovely white, pink, and rust colored blooms make up for it. It is very important for stabilizing waterfront banks, such as those around lakes, rivers, and ponds. Feel free to prune it back, but it is not necessary. It is a host plant for the Byssus Skipper butterfly.
