Butterfly Milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa)

I bloom best in the sun.

I am very drought tolerant.

Size:     1-2 ft tall x 0.5-1 ft wide

Bloom Time: Spring and Summer

I am one of the few native milkweeds that love dry soil. I am famously known as a host for the monarch butterfly. I like disturbed sandy soil in full sun and I produce lovely bright orange blooms. Go ahead and touch my sandpaper-like leaves! After blooming, I produce seeds, then go dormant for the winter while the monarchs migrate south. I am a great native milkweed for central Florida.
