Black Cherry (Prunus serotina)

Size: Up to 70ft tall

Long-lived deciduous tree for dry upland sites. The leaves are poisonous to animals and humans, but the fruit can be prepared into a jelly. Excellent source of food for wildlife and a host plant for the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Red-Spotted Purple and Coral Hairstreak butterfly. The wood is highly prized by wood workers.
