Spotted Beebalm (Monarda punctata)

 Full sun to part shade

Low water needs

Size:     2-5 ft tall

Bloom Time: Summer through fall

Beebalm is a robust, aromatic wildflower known to attract a huge variety of pollinating insects, including bees, wasps and butterflies. It can be used in informal gardens or as individual plants in gardens with a more tended look. The long branches can get rangy and fall over, but trimming in early summer will keep it bushier. It is a great reseeder, so you may find it showing up in other flower beds throughout your garden.

Fun Fact: Beebalm is high in thymol, which has antimicrobial, antifungal, and antiseptic properties and has been used historically to treat ringworm and hookworm infections. Thymol is also the same oil in thyme and oregano, therefore, beebalm leaves can be used as a substitute for those Mediterranean herbs. Consider planting it in a herb or cottage garden.
