Autograph Tree (Clusia rosea)

I bloom best in the sun, but will tolerate some shade.

I have low water needs.

Size: 25-50 ft tall

Bloom Time: Summer

This native tree or wide shrub gets its name from the leathery leaves that can be scratched, with the scratches remaining until the leaves fall. It produces showy flowers (opening at night, and usually only flowering in very south Florida). These make great potted plants so they can be moved indoors during periods of cold.

Fun Fact: The black material surrounding the seeds was once used to caulk the seams of boats leading to the name pitch apple.
